A medical exam for Canadian immigration applications can only be conducted by a physician from the IRCC-approved list. A regular family doctor or clinic will not be accepted, even if your doctor is licensed in your province — they must be approved by the Canadian immigration centre itself.
Who Can Conduct a Medical Exam
A medical exam can only be conducted by a physician from the list of accredited IRCC Panel Physicians. Regular doctors, family practitioners, or clinics cannot perform immigration medical exams, even if they are licensed in your province. The only exception is physicians who are simultaneously approved IRCC panel physicians.
How to Find a Panel Physician
The list of approved panel physicians can be found on the official IRCC website in the Panel Physicians search section. You need to select your country and review the complete list of doctors. You then contact the selected physician directly and book an appointment. You arrange the appointment and examination schedule directly with the medical facility.
Required Documents
For your medical exam, you need to bring your passport and a request letter from IRCC, if applicable to your situation. A request letter is not always required. For some categories of individuals, such as when submitting an independent application, it may not be necessary. For other application types, a request letter is mandatory — the doctor will not conduct the exam without it.
When an Exam is Required in Advance
When submitting a permanent residence application through Express Entry, the exam may be scheduled during the review process or may be required at the time of submission. If you are within Canada and fall under any applicable government policy, an exam may not be required. In most other cases, a preliminary exam is mandatory.

Medical Exam Validity Period
A medical exam is valid for 12 months. There is no need to rush to get the exam in hopes of saving time — it may result in wasted time if your circumstances change. It is important to check the validity period before submission: always ensure that the exam will be valid at the time your application is reviewed.
