The design track in the Global Talent Vision program opened recently, but already shows high approval rates — around 90%. This became possible after separate criteria were established for creative professions, better suited to portfolios and projects in design and architecture.

What’s Needed for Approval

To obtain UK leave to remain through Global Talent Vision, you need to prove you belong to the arts and creative field — artist, sculptor, musician, theatre worker, film actor, writer, designer, photographer, and other fields. The main condition: you must create a work of art with your own hands.

The second key requirement is to show recognition in your field. This doesn’t necessarily mean being famous or winning an award. It’s enough to have exhibitions, publications, or media mentions over the last five years that confirm your activity from external sources.

The third requirement is to provide three letters of recommendation. One of them must be from a British organization — this is often the difficult part, but in some cases help finding such contacts is possible.

Why This Change Matters for Designers

Before 2026, approvals for designers under Global Talent Vision were rare. The old criteria required a large number of non-commercial projects, but such projects are rare in design. Most designers’ work is commercial, which made meeting the previous requirements impossible.

After the introduction of a separate track for designers and architects, the situation changed. The new criteria take into account the specifics of the profession and allow a portfolio of commercial projects to be used as proof of skill and recognition.

Who Reviews Applications

Design applications are reviewed by the Arts Council — the same competent body responsible for other Global Talent Vision tracks. The Arts Council is known for predictable decisions and consistent evaluation criteria. For other tracks overseen by this body, the approval rate is also around 90%.

Global Talent Vision — the Most Accessible Talent Visa

By its criteria, Global Talent Vision is the simplest among all talent visas that exist worldwide. Compared to programs in Canada, Australia, the US, and France for creative professionals, the UK has the lowest requirements for documentary evidence.

The visa is granted for five years and allows you to work self-employed, run your own business, work for any company inside or outside the UK, and obtain permanent residency (ILR).
