Under Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa, the main applicant may be joined by a spouse or partner, minor children, and adult dependent children, and in certain cases by dependent relatives in the ascending line. Each family member is issued their own visa or residence permit. A spouse has the right to work without a separate work permit, and children can live in the country and study.
Who Can Join the Applicant
Spanish law allows a residence permit for a spouse or partner, their minor children, and adult children who are dependent and have not formed their own family. In certain cases, relatives in the ascending line may also obtain status if they are financially dependent on the main applicant.
Each family member is issued their own visa or residence permit.
Rights of the Spouse and Children
An important advantage of the program is that the spouse or partner of the main applicant may not only live in Spain but also work in the country. A separate work permit is not required for this. This right covers both employment and self-employed professional activity.
Children can live in Spain with their parents and study in the country. Parents need to separately decide on choosing an educational institution and enrolling the child. This depends on the child’s age, language of instruction, and the requirements of the specific school.
Documents Proving Family Ties
To obtain a permit for family members, you must prove your family relationship with the main applicant. A spouse will need a marriage certificate, and children will need birth certificates. If these documents were issued outside Spain, an apostille or legalization may be required, along with a translation into Spanish.
If a child is relocating with only one of the parents, additional documents may be needed: consent from the second parent or confirmation of one parent’s right to make decisions on the child’s behalf.
Requirements for the Applicant and Family Members
The requirements for the main applicant and their relatives differ significantly. The applicant must meet the conditions of the program for international remote workers: confirm professional qualifications or the necessary experience, income level, the existence of relevant activity and the ability to perform it remotely, as well as other requirements of the law.
Family members do not need to confirm their own digital nomad status. The basis is their family relationship with the applicant.

What to Check Before Applying
Before submitting an application, it is worth checking whether the main applicant’s professional activity fits the program’s requirements, whether the confirmed income is sufficient taking all relatives into account, whether marriage and birth certificates are properly prepared, whether an apostille, legalization and translation are needed, and whether the documents of minor children meet the requirements of the chosen filing method.
