Canada and Ukraine sign 100-year agreement: will there be visa-free travel for Ukrainians?

During Vladimir Zelensky’s visit to Canada, both sides signed a century-long partnership agreement between the countries. There is no official decision on visa-free travel for Ukrainians yet, but the agreement creates the conditions for this — and in the near future, the issue could move forward.

What exactly was signed

During the Ukrainian president’s trip to Canada, both sides concluded a partnership agreement designed to last one hundred years. The visit was also accompanied by a new package of financial aid to Ukraine from the Canadian government.

No separate document on visa-free travel was signed. The point is that the centennial agreement lays the foundation on which such a decision could potentially emerge — there is currently no official confirmation of this step.

What visa-free travel might look like

If a decision to abolish visas for Ukrainian citizens is made, it would mean the ability to enter Canada by plane or through an airport without obtaining a visa in advance. This would apply to visits to relatives, as well as tourist visits to the country.

For now, this is only the direction in which the situation might develop after the agreement is signed. Any final decision would require a separate official announcement from the Canadian side.
