IRCC has announced changes to Express Entry, but they only affect the Canadian Experience Class category and will apply to new applications, not those already submitted. If you have already received an invitation or submitted a PR application, your application is protected from the changes.

Who is protected from the changes

Those who have already received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) or have already submitted a complete PR application will not be affected by the new rules. This applies to all Express Entry categories. If your application is under review, its status remains unchanged.

In addition, those who created an Express Entry profile before the day the changes take effect are exempt from any upcoming changes. The profile remains valid under the previous rules.

Don’t rush to create a profile

It’s important to understand that simply creating an Express Entry profile does not guarantee an invitation. You will only be invited if you score enough CRS points and IRCC holds a draw. Creating a profile today will give you no advantage tomorrow, so there’s no need to rush.

Which categories will see changes

The changes will only affect the federal Canadian Experience Class category. The other two streams — the Federal Skilled Worker Stream and the Federal Skilled Trades Program — either don’t hold draws or hold them rarely.

The changes will resemble the system already implemented by the province of Ontario in its Ontario Workforce Priority Stream. This involves reassessing points for NOC code, salary, total income, and place of work depending on labour market needs.

Don’t rely on a single source

There’s a lot of conflicting information online about changes to Express Entry. Some sources create panic, suggesting you urgently create a profile and seek paid services. Consider only the official IRCC website, licensed immigration consultants, and reputable lawyers on verified platforms as reliable information. Ignore advice from anyone asking for money for services based on these changes.

The main thing to do right now

If you’re planning to apply through Express Entry, carefully review the official IRCC guidance before applying. Make sure your NOC code accurately reflects your job, check your documentation, and don’t rush your profile. Wait for complete information about the changes before making a decision.
