A 2005 film about a corporation that creates clones of wealthy people for organ transplants. The clones are kept in a huge building, made to believe that the world outside has been hit by an apocalypse and that they are chosen ones. Salvation is supposedly a lottery and a trip to a paradise island, but two of them learn the truth and escape.
Plot: why the corporation creates people
In the future, wealthy people want to live forever, or at least much longer. The corporation solved this problem through cloning: they take a person’s DNA and create an exact copy. The clone is placed in a huge, organized building, where it is implanted with only 15–20 memories.
At first, the corporation tried keeping clones in a state resembling an ordinary embryo — just lying motionless. But they couldn’t survive long that way. So they decided to give the clones a full life: they are born, develop, and function like ordinary people. This allowed the organs to grow and become suitable for transplantation. When a wealthy person’s heart starts failing — they take the heart. Need lungs, kidneys, liver — they take them as needed.
How the clones are kept obedient
The corporation’s directors came up with a clever system. The clones are directed wherever needed, dressed in identical clothing, and marched in formation. The main trick for keeping them obedient is the lottery and the promise of being sent to the island. This island is supposedly the only remaining oasis of freedom and stability left on Earth, because everywhere else there’s an apocalypse.
The clones believe this story and live with rose-colored glasses on. But at one point, two of them open their eyes to the truth and escape.
What happens after the escape
After the escape, the most interesting part of the film begins. The escaped clones find themselves in the real world and realize that this could genuinely happen in the future — that people will start creating clones and exploiting them.
The film blends different genres: comedy, drama, action. This makes it interesting for almost every viewer.

Cast
The leading roles are played by Scarlett Johansson, Ewan McGregor, and Steve Buscemi. Other popular actors also appear in the film, forming a very strong cast.
