The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has filed suspicions against senior officials of the General Prosecutor’s Office for covering up call centers — the case is called “Carthage.” Following the scandal, the prosecutor general submitted his resignation, but before the Verkhovna Rada considered it, he signed suspicions against the heads of NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

The “Carthage” Case Explained

According to NABU, senior officials of the General Prosecutor’s Office are involved in covering up call centers. As part of the investigation, numerous searches were conducted, during which significant amounts of cash were seized. The prosecutor general appears in recordings that the bureau possesses.

Following the disclosure of this information, the prosecutor general submitted his resignation. The Verkhovna Rada is to consider the resignation, and until then he continues to hold office.

Suspicions Filed Against NABU and SAP Heads

Even before his resignation was considered, the prosecutor general filed suspicions against the heads of NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. The NABU head was accused of unlawful adoption of a child.

These actions are viewed as retaliation for anti-corruption bodies exposing the prosecutor general’s subordinates in covering up call centers.

Leaving the Country During the Scandal

After suspicions were filed against anti-corruption leaders, the prosecutor general left the country, citing an official business trip — despite already submitting his resignation.

According to Ukrainian Pravda, on the same night his wife and family left Ukraine through the Shegini border crossing.
