Preparation for admission to a Canadian college should begin exactly 12 months before your desired arrival date. Each month throughout the year requires completing specific tasks — from choosing a province and program to gathering documents and completing a medical examination.
September and October: choosing your strategy and program
Start your preparation in September if you’re planning to begin studies in September of the following year. Throughout September and October, develop a complete application strategy: select the province, specific college, and program. At this stage, you need to check the requirements for each program and begin preparing documents required for your application. If you’re working with an educational agency, they should provide you with a complete list of required documents, including financial statements. Knowing the requirements in advance gives you a full 6 months to prepare them.
November: submitting documents to the college
In November, you begin actively submitting applications to your chosen institutions. This is a critical month when all documents and forms must be sent to colleges according to their submission deadlines.
December: receiving the offer letter
In December, you typically receive the first offer letters from colleges. This document confirms that the institution has reviewed your academic record and English language test results and invites you to study there. The letter outlines the conditions of admission. You must either accept these conditions if they meet your expectations or decline the offer if they don’t suit you.
February: preparing financial documents
By February, all documents must be ready for submission with your study permit application. One of the key documents is a bank statement confirming the available funds in your account and the history of these funds over the last 6 months. Since immigration authorities require documentation of the source and history of your funds, you should begin preparing financial documents in September. By the end of February, all financial documents must be in place.
Late February to April: submitting documents to immigration
By late February or no later than April, you must submit a complete package of documents to the immigration office to obtain your study permit. Meeting these deadlines is important for staying on schedule.

May to July: medical examination and passport submission
Around May, you’ll receive a request to undergo a medical examination. After completion (no later than June-July), you’ll receive a request to send your passport to the visa application center for visa processing. Sending your passport there and back takes about 4 weeks. It’s important to know this in advance, especially if you’re planning summer holidays in July: your passport will be in the visa processing stage during this time and cannot be used for travel. With proper planning when choosing your program in September, you’ll be prepared for this scenario.
August: full readiness for arrival
By August, all documents should be complete. If the entire plan is executed correctly and on time, the student will be able to prepare calmly and arrive at the Canadian college in September to begin their studies.
