The IRCC Status Tracker lets you check the status of almost any application to Canada’s immigration department in just a few minutes. To check, you’ll need details from your application acknowledgement letter, a verification method (GC Key or banking information), and a code sent by email.
Which Applications Can Be Tracked
The Status Tracker works for most types of immigration applications. The service’s main page lists the full range of applications and applicant categories that can use this tool. If your category is listed, you’ll be able to check your status.
Step One: Identity Verification
Open the Status Tracker page and choose your verification method. Two options are available: signing in with GC Key (if you used it when submitting your application) or verifying with your banking information. When using banking verification, the loading page may take a while. If this happens, try refreshing your browser or returning to the main page and verifying again. The system should then redirect you to the data entry page.
Steps to Check Status in the IRCC Status Tracker
Four steps from logging in to viewing your status
- Identity verificationStep 1Choose GC Key or banking information
- Selecting your role and entering dataStep 2Provide your name, UCI, and application number from the acknowledgement letter
- Receiving the verification codeStep 3The code is sent by email and entered into the form
- Viewing your statusStep 4Status information and related applications of family members
Step Two: Entering Your Information
On the next page, select your role (applicant, sponsor, or representative) and review the privacy notice. Then enter your personal details: full name, UCI number, and application number. Both numbers can be found in the acknowledgement letter you received when you submitted your application. Make sure the information matches the data in your profile.
Step Three: Verification Code
After entering your information, the system will send a verification code to your email address (or your representative’s email, if they submitted the application). The page will show a hint with the first characters of the email address for confirmation. Copy the code from the email and enter it into the form. This completes the verification process.
Step Four: Viewing Your Status
After entering the code, the system will redirect you to a page showing your application’s status. It will display the application type and its current state. If the status says ‘in progress’, this means your application is being reviewed and no urgent action is needed. If the status shows ‘not approved’ or ‘refused’, you should contact your immigration representative or follow IRCC’s instructions.

Related Applications
If you submitted a family application, related applications for your spouse and dependents will be shown below the main information. Clicking on any of them will reveal further details. The system will confirm that no action is required from you at this stage and that the application is under review. Before logging out, it’s a good idea to take a screenshot of the status page.
