Access to financial life in Europe

On a tourist visa, it is practically impossible to rent long-term housing in Spain. Agents and landlords require full documentation and proof of steady income — even if the money comes from abroad.

Banks refuse to open a full account without status. Only having a residence permit and proof of residency in the country allows you to walk into a bank in person and apply. Online banks (neobanks) open accounts more easily, but regular financial institutions require resident status as a mandatory condition.

Limitations of resident status
