How Global Talent works

Global Talent is a UK visa for leaders and emerging leaders in academia and research, arts and culture, and digital technology. Most applicants first need an endorsement from a designated body, and a few prizes allow applicants to skip that stage.

The visa is not tied to an employer, lets the holder work freely or be self-employed, and leads to settlement (indefinite leave to remain) and then British citizenship. Because the evidence is similar, it is often weighed against the US EB-1A extraordinary ability green card.

Endorsing bodies include the Royal Society, the British Academy and the Royal Academy of Engineering for research, Arts Council England for arts and culture, and a designated body for digital technology. The visa can be granted for up to five years at a time, and a partner and children can join the main applicant. Settlement has been available after three years for exceptional talent and five for exceptional promise, though the government is reviewing settlement rules. There is no minimum salary and no English test at the visa stage.
